In the Fall of 2015 The Every Student Succeeds Act was passed, and The Education Trust was a major player in it’s legislation. During that time our design and communications teams partnered to script, record, and produce a short animation explaining the basic components of the law.

The challenge with this project was being both the art director and motion graphics designer. The first task was to ensure the production and editing process moved along smoothly. The second task was to make the 3-minute animation sequence visually appealing, technically accurate, and emotionally honest.

Art Direction

For the art direction, I used Ed Trust blue as the tie-in for the introduction and conclusion.

I picked the six richest colors of Ed Trust’s palette for the six main components and made sure their arrangements in the final puzzle would complement one another.

Each main section is in monochrome. Ed Trust greys, browns, black, and white act as neutral colors for the intro and conclusion background, illustration details, and typography. I kept the typography consistent, using it in all caps, and styled their animation in a similarly revealing way.
